![]() The people of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church are a welcoming community committed to living and growing as witnesses to Jesus Christ in our daily lives. Our History Good Shepherd is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Good Shepherd’s first worship service took place in the Farm Bureau Building
in Knoxville in 1984. The service was called “A Celebration of a New
Beginning.” The church newsletter was begun as well, “The Shepherd’s
Staff.” In 1986 charter members signed the roll, and Good Shepherd became
an official church of the former American Lutheran Church. A parsonage was
purchased, they had their first Vacation Bible School (VBS), and the church began new growth. In 1988 land was purchased by the golf course and building plans began. In 1989 a sign was placed on the new property as an outward message that Good Shepherd was about to build. 1992 was the groundbreaking year for the new building, and
construction soon began. In 1993 Dedication Sunday was celebrated in the new
building. The church was now on its way. Good Shepherd has a history of not just ministering to each other and the community, but of having fun. Each year we have an indoor miniature golf classic. We have a high priority for youth ministry. The
confirmation program is a strong one. Mentors for
each student help guide
them during their confirmation years. We are a church made up of Lutherans and non-Lutherans, a delightful mixture of God's people. Good Shepherd is a good place to grow. The enthusiasm, faith in God, and love for life draws this community together.
